Choose a Life’s Verse.

My Life’s Verse

I believe in life verses. Choosing a Life Verse gives your life an anchor to hold on to and reference when you have done all you can and it reminds you to depend on God.

My life’s verse is Jeremiah 29:11 β€œFOR I KNOW THE PLANS I HAVE FOR YOU,” declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” When I face difficulty or challenges, I return to this verse, it calms my fears and any uncertainties surrounding a situation. Some people may refer to this as a motto, but as a Christian, I refer to it as my life’s verse because it comes from the word of God.

What is a Life’s Verse?

My introduction to the idea of a life verse was at church. My pastor was preaching and he mentioned that he has a life’s verse. He explained that a life verse is a scripture from the Bible that you memorize, refer to and lean on in times of trouble. For me, my life’s verse helps me most when I am afraid or have uncertainties. It reminds me that whatever the circumstance, God already has a plan, He knows the plans, His plans are good and He will bring them to pass and those plans will not hurt me.

My life’s verse sets me back on track because it forces me to refocus on God’s plans and aligning my thoughts, ideas, and actions with, the will of God in order to bring those plans to pass.

How Do You Choose Your Life’s Verse?

I chose Jeremiah 29:11 as my Life’s Verse because I like to control things. When I have no control or lose control, it causes me to have anxiety. Jeremiah 29:11 is my constant reminder that I cannot control everything and that God has already set everything out for me. It has remained my life’s verse because I still need a constant reminder to let go.

Steps to Choosing Your Life’s Verse.

  1. Determine what you struggle with the most?
  2. Are there verses in the Old and or New Testament that speaks to those struggle
  3. Do any of the verses you found bring you peace or comfort?
  4. Pick verses that you can easily memorize
  5. Make a shortlist of the verses and begin to study each one
  6. Choose the ones that speak directly to your heart and stick with it or them because the magic of a life’s verse improves overtime.

An important step in choosing your life’s verse is studying the Bible and seeking to understand. After you complete the steps above and choose more than one life’s verse, then great, if you only have one, then that is also great.
